NEW YORK CITY TRIP   -NYC PICS

Towards the end of 06 we ventured over the pond on our very first New York trip. We had 5 days and 5 nights in total but a whole lot of places, sites and people to see.

As soon as we had gone through the tunnel to Manhattan Island, and we saw those massive sky scrapers towering over you. With yellow cabs and black and white cop cars, we felt like we where on the set of one of the many movies we have seen based in NYC.

Straight to the hotel room in the Washington Jefferson, a very modern style hotel but tiny rooms even though it was an upgrade. Dumped our bags and headed straight out on the roam to see some land marks and find Tiffany’s!

Everything is just as you would expect as our hotel was just around the corner from Broadway, The Rockafella, Time Sqaure and Central Park.

The second day we walked straight down Broadway from 58th west all the way to the Lower East Side. Well worth the walk as you can see so much on route.

I was like a kid at Christmas knowing I was going to see the ever so familiar named stores such as Dave’s Quality Meat’s, Supreme, Recon, Anything, Flight Club, Alife and the Rivington club.

Of them all I was expecting the stores to have arrogance about them as I know what some Sneaker stores can be like, but I was warmly welcomed at Dave’s Quality Meat’s. They had the best selection of new sneakers from all brands and all the limited colour way’s. I even met the infamous Dave and Squishy, had a yarn with Dave about a Black Sabbath cover band he saw at a party in London.

The Alife and Rivington Club stores where to be as expected very cool and very chic, a bit of a trek out east to find them but well worth it as saw some great graf on the way, even a Neckface tag.

Found an amazing night club on our second night called Club Cielo, where Dj Angel Moreas resides as the Saturday residence. Small venue, great interior and the best sound system I have ever heard, along with some real strange dancing going on.

We did the obligatory Central Park horse and cart ride, went up to the top of The Rock, a ferry ride around the whole of Manhattan Island and found some amazing places to eat.

There was this one restaurant around the corner from Grand Central station, it was a Jewish restaurant and we where sold whilst browsing their menu by a friend of the water’s who told us that Danny Devtio was eating there the previous week and said it was the best Burger he had ever eaten. How can you walk away from that!

As we where west 58, we where just around the corner from the famous Hells Kitchen, aptly named because of the frequently boiling crime and corruption. Though now from 59th down to 38th it is the best place to find any style of restaurant or café that takes your fancy. Needless to say we found the best Mexican takeaway ever!

The only down side to our brief NYC trip was that there was too much to do and too little time to do it, unfortunately we didn’t even leave Manhattan Island or even make it up to Harlem. Hence I can feel another New York trip on the horizon to visit the other boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and The Bronx.
